The Hopi tribe of Arizona, America, is still waiting for the real white brother to come back.Hopi beliefs center around the figure of the True White Brother, known as Pahana (or Bahana), a revered, long-lost brother who will return to the Hopi people and usher in an era of peace and spiritual renewal, marking the transition to the Fifth World.Identity and Departure * According to the legend, when the Hopi entered the present Fourth World and began their migrations, a white-skinned older brother figure left and traveled toward the East. * He promised to return someday to his younger brother (the Hopi) to help them during a time of great trouble and chaos, known as Koyaanisqatsi (“life out of balance”).The Return and Prophetic RoleThe return of the Pahana is prophesied to coincide with the world’s Purification Day, a time when evildoers will be punished or destroyed, and lasting peace will be established. * Sacred Tablets: The Pahana’s most important identifier is a sacred stone tablet given to him when he left. He will return with the missing corner piece of a matching tablet kept by the Hopi elders, thereby revealing the hidden teachings within and validating his identity. * Appearance: He is often described as wearing a red cap or cloak, having the ability to write, and possessing the sole ability to read the sacred tablets. * Mission: His mission is to help the Hopi and other pure-hearted people to create a better world by restoring the land and establishing a great new life plan that leads to everlasting peace and brotherhood for all people. * The False Pahana: It is forewarned that a similar-looking people (the European settlers) would arrive first, often called white-skinned men “like Pahana, but not living like Pahana,” who would seize the land and stray from the spiritual path. This has made it difficult for the Hopi to trust outsiders, as the true Pahana’s return must be verified through the sacred tablet and a spiritual handshake.The Hopi prophecies are viewed by many, including some Hopi elders, as highly relevant to modern global events, suggesting that humanity is living in the final days of the Fourth World and is at a critical crossroads. The core theme is the increasing state of Koyaanisqatsi—”life out of balance”—due to humanity’s deviation from spiritual and natural principles.Here is how key prophecies are interpreted in relation to current events:1. Technological & Historical Signs (Signs of the End)Many of the more literal signs have been interpreted as being fulfilled in the 20th and 21st centuries: * “Gourd of Ashes” Falling on Earth: This is almost universally interpreted as the atomic bomb (the nuclear attacks on Japan in 1945), a weapon with the power to “boil everything within a large space” and leave the land barren. * “Snakes of Iron” and “Black Ribbons”: These were interpreted as the railroads and the asphalt roads for “horseless wagons” (automobiles). * “Roads in the Heavens” and “Giant Spiderweb”: These are seen as air travel (airplanes/rockets) and the widespread network of electricity, telephone lines, and the Internet (“The Web”). * The Moon Landing: Prophecy spoke of people going up to the moon and bringing something back, after which “nature would show signs of losing its balance.” This event is cited as a turning point that led to the escalating natural disasters. * The Two Shakings: The “two great shakings of the Earth” are widely interpreted as World War I and World War II.2. Environmental and Climate Disruption (Koyaanisqatsi)The state of imbalance and the impending Purification are linked directly to global crises: * Loss of Balance in Nature: Hopi elders cite the increase in floods, droughts, severe storms, earthquakes, and changes in the seasons as clear evidence that nature is out of balance. This aligns with modern concerns about climate change and extreme weather events. * Disappearance of Wildlife: The prophecy mentions the disappearance of wildlife and famine, which is seen in the context of mass extinction events and global food security crises. * The Sea Turning Black: This sign is interpreted as a prediction of oil spills and general ocean pollution.3. Societal and Spiritual BreakdownThe prophecy points to a moral and social decay: * Corruption and Confusion: There are warnings of “gradual corruption and confusion among the leaders and the people all over the world,” which is interpreted as the political and social unrest, division, and moral decline seen globally. * The Two Paths on Prophecy Rock: The ancient petroglyph at Oraibi is often used to illustrate the current choice: * The Upper Path (The Way of the White Man): This is the path of technology, materialism, and separation from nature, which leads to a “zig-zag” end of chaos and destruction. * The Lower Path (The Hopi Way): This is the path of harmony with nature, spiritual principles, and simple, peaceful life, which continues on to a prosperous Fifth World.The core message of the Hopi prophecies, therefore, is a timeless spiritual and ecological warning: humanity’s survival depends on choosing the path of spiritual peace and love for Mother Earth over materialism and the misuse of technology.
