Being an individual who lives with multiple illnesses, and who also has been homeless because of the fact, i know this struggle and cannot express how the purposeful attack on the disabled by not only our federal government but also local and state governments is by the least disgusting . Add in the stigma that the media and the oh so loving kindness of some of the local citizen’s, who have been everything but empathetic or even sympathetic, but down right evil towards those who are disabled and homeless, for the simple fact of money.
The DEED law is a great start. And here’s why. In 2011 while living in Denver Colorado, i met a blind Buddhist monk from Hong Kong. We met on a city bus and began talking, he informed me that he was headed to a Good Wiil store to protest the paying below minimum wages to the disabled, namely the blind. I know for a fact that the Denver, Arapahoe, and Jefferson counties in Colorado forced those who applied for TANIF to work for Good Will stores even if disabled even when provided with Doctors documents. So the State of Colorado along with the Good will corp. are making a profit off the very cheap labor of the unfortunate and disabled. Good Will is a non-profit but the CEO brings in a pretty nice income. At the same time period I was so fortunate to sit as an advisory on a board for a non-profit in the south Denver metro area and the purpose of the non-profit was to provide temporary housing during cold nights. Not a one of us on the board made any money, it was completely volunteered.
I ask in all sincerity that we as a nation continue the stance against the slavery like abuse pitted toward the disabled and unfortunate. https://www.disabilityscoop.com/2016/08/29/subminimum-changes-flat-footed/22681/
