“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
This is of course a quote from Jesus Christ in the Bible at Matthew 6:24. It is pretty cut and dry on the issue of what you say you are, and what you actually are. Being a Minister I study many religions and have the hardest time with understanding American Christians.
Today I attended a Christian church here in Colorado springs, Colorado. It was an unexpected but pleasant invite, just out of the blue. I am not the type to usually turn down a sermon, but believe it or not this was the second time with in 45 mins someone asked my family and myself to a Christian Church, in which I turned them down. The second gentlemen was a little better in the timing department, and I was excepting. He also gave us a ride, which for me is a plus. The church was a few miles away, and the gentlemen was very kind and so was his wife. The church was in an old strip mall, and was predominately African-American, which of course is of no concern to me, it’s just a demo-graphic observation. The pastor and what I would call ministerial servants where all woman, which is a pretty big controversy with in multiple christian congregations. The music was great!!! The Choir and band did amazing and it was greatly entertaining. The sermon was more about Self obtaining goals with some High lighted scriptures to prove the pastors point of how she seemed to perceive how a Christian should be, with no actual quotes from Jesus but from the old testament and not really keeping up with the scripture to prove her point, or G-ds point. She seemed to be very judgmental towards abused children who have problems as adults, making the point that they are just crying over themselves, and you can tell that this was about her point of view, and not the exact point of view of Christ. This was a sermon done by an American who chose to be a Christian without the submission of her American Believes. Is that possible? Jesus stated it is not.
I will continue to visit other christian church’s or congregations but will not join. I will also continue to visit and learn other world religions, as it is who I wanna be, and I believe I can better serve all of Gods people with this attitude.
